TOP WORKSHOP

TRUSTEE ORIENTATION PROGRAM (TOP) - WORKSHOP

BCLTA invites all trustees to attend this informative and interactive workshop.  BCLTA’s TOP is a comprehensive look at the roles and responsibilities of a library trustee in British Columbia. This workshop introduces trustees to the provincial context for public library leadership, including legislation and services, community advocacy, current issues and strategies for success. The program is driven by a team of regional trainers who deliver sessions in all areas of the province.

Recently, BCLTA has made this program more accessible than ever to trustees around the province in two important ways. First of all, working with Ken, we have trained our own team of regional trainers who will be available to deliver the TOP program in your area of the province. Secondly, through the generous support of Public Library Services Branch, Ministry of Education, and their commitment to promoting education programs for trustees, we are able to offer TOP with no registration fee for 2006, 2007 and 2008. (The previous registration fee was $150/participant.)

The broad content of this workshop makes it ideally suited to new trustees. However, we have had a number of long-serving trustees take this course as a refresher and they have found it a great energizer. It can be a great group activity if the entire board participates.

To view the list of TOP sessions scheduled for 2008 or to register for one of these sessions,  REGISTER >

To arrange a local session - send an email to or call Mandy Davies at 604-913-1424.

BCLTA makes all the arrangements for this full day session and we’ll even include a continental breakfast and lunch. The format works best with a group of at least eight participants however we’ll do our best to suit your needs. And, if your board is small you might consider teaming up with another nearby board as it creates a great opportunity to share ideas and network.
