BC Library Conference 2005
Online conference program and registration
The BC Library Trustees’ Association is pleased to co-sponsor the 2005 Annual BC Library Conference with the BC Library Association.
It is important for trustees to have a presence at this gathering, so that our perspective and voice contributes to the ongoing discussions about library service in BC. This is especially true in light of the recently announced provincial strategic plan, which sets out a significant enhancement in provincial support for public libraries. The conference provides an opportunity to discuss the plan with other trustees, and with Maureen Woods, Director of the Public Library Services Branch.
The annual conference is also a time to meet other trustees, share challenges and successes, network, and learn new skills. The following events will be of specific interest to trustees:
- BCLTA is pleased to provide two “pre-conference” workshops this year (taking place Thursday April 21). The Trustee Orientation Program, with Dr. Ken Haycock, runs as a full-day session (see page 9 in the program). An “Open House ” session is offered Thursday afternoon and provides an early opportunity in the conference schedule for trustees to meet and discuss issues.
- In addition to these pre-conference workshops, BCLTA has also organized three great sessions that take place during the main program: Building Trustee Leadership (see page 16 in the program); Lobbying for Libraries (page 28); and Open Issues (page 20). Of course, there are many other sessions in the program that will be of interest to trustees – the challenge is deciding which ones to attend!
- I hope you will join us at the Trustee Reception, on Friday April 22, following the Awards Reception. This event is free of charge. (Note that the registration form has an error and shows a $15 cost for this event. Please disregard.)
- The BCLTA AGM will take place Sunday April 23, from 8:30 to 10:30 AM. Be sure to stay over Saturday night so you can participate in BCLTA elections – or run for election yourself. Maureen Woods will join us as our special guest. Breakfast is provided.
Online registration is available via the BCLA website www.bcla.bc.ca/conference.
